Tale of Kingdoms: A new Conquest is a revival of the Tale of Kingdoms mod for 1.16+. Currently we are in alpha. Content seen is based on original versions.

Enter a dangerous realm of knights and honour, fight your way through the hordes of evil and forge your very own kingdom under your reign. Begin your adventure. Prove to the Guildmaster that you are worthy. Be the hero you were born for.

Please note that this mod is a complete recode unlike previous Tale of Kingdoms versions.

Getting Started

Tale of Kingdoms builds on JDK 16 and uses Gradle to manage dependencies.

Prerequisites

You just need Java 16. If you don't have it:

Latest from https://adoptopenjdk.net / https://adoptium.net, or;

sudo apt install adoptopenjdk-16-hotspot

Installation

  1. Clone the repo
git clone https://github.com/SamB440/Tale-of-Kingdoms.git
  1. cd into project
cd tale-of-kingdoms
  1. Run gradle build
./gradlew build
  1. Get your jar file

Jar file is in build/libs/tale-of-kingdoms-{VERSION}.jar.

  1. Install Fabric

Get it from https://fabricmc.net/use/

  1. Install jar file to the mods folder

Put the tale of kingdoms jar file in your .minecraft/mods folder.

  1. Run Minecraft!

Developing

Hot-swapping

To enable hot-swapping, do the following (in IntelliJ):

  1. Use CTRL + ALT + S
  2. Go to Build, Execution, Deployment > Debugger > HotSwap
  3. Check enable HotSwap, Build project before reloading classes
  4. Uncheck enable JVM will hang warning
  5. Set reload classes after compilation to always.

Important: Make sure you download the correct JBR, it should have this format (note the sdk): jbrsdk_dcevm-17_0_1-windows-x64-b164.4.tar.gz

Then you need to disable using Gradle for hot-swapping and instead use your IDE.

IntelliJ:

  • CTRL+ALT+S
  • Build, Execution, Deployment > Build Tools > Gradle
  • Build and run using: IntelliJ
  • Run tests using: IntelliJ

Now navigate to Run > Edit Configurations. Select Application > Minecraft Client. Add the -XX:+AllowEnhancedClassRedefinition flag, and the -XX:HotswapAgent=fatjar flag.

Ensure your Working Directory is set to the run folder in your project.

You then need to add mixin hot-swaps: https://fabricmc.net/wiki/tutorial:mixin_hotswaps

Final Steps Ensure the Gradle JDK is set to JBR for the project.

You can now run the Minecraft Client task by going to ALT+SHIFT+F9 > Minecraft Client!

You can reload a class by doing CTRL+SHIFT+F9 or right-clicking it in the explorer then selecting 'Recompile x.class'

Common issues:

  • "Error opening zip file or JAR manifest missing": Your mixin hot-swaps link is outdated. Go through the "mixin hotswaps" tutorial again.

Upgrading textures

Some textures are in the old 64x32 format. 1.9+ uses 64x64 for skin textures. Upgrading these skins can be done by going to https://www.minecraftskins.com/skin-editor/, selecting "upload from computer" then "download".

    When used on a server with offline mode enabled, you can enter the server for the first time, but the start conquest page won't appear and manually using the start new conquest key won't work either, there is no castle generated in the server weather it's a new world or an existing world, and if you log off the server and try to log in again, the server will deny your connection request and send an error message of Invalid Player Data. I'm on Mod version 1.0.2 Minecraft 1.17.1 Fabric Loader 0.11.6 Fabric Api 0.38.2

    Summary

    I installed this mod in a mod pack called All of Fabric 3 (AoF3) which is on the FTB App. It runs as usual for the most part, but I noticed a bug when switching between worlds.

    If I start a guild quest (and the castle gets created) in, say, World 1, and switch to another world, say, World 2, I am prompted to start a new guild quest. This is normal, but if I do not start a new quest in World 2, and I switch back to World 1, my initial guild quest is gone and I am prompted to start a new quest in World 1. If I proceed with starting a new guild quest then a new kingdom will be created.

    I do not know if this is a bug caused by mod conflicts, as I haven't seen any other issue reports on this, but I'm reporting because it caused me to lose my house and lots of hours of progress in my Minecraft world.

    Steps to reproduce

    Create a new world, World 1 Go into World 1, and begin a guild quest (which should cause the kingdom to be built) Exit World 1 Create a new world, World 2 Open World 2 and close the prompt to start a guild quest Exit World 2 Open World 1, and open your inventory (your number of Gold Coins is now reset) Press "k", The guild quest prompt should appear, allowing you to start a new quest.

    Expected behaviour

    Not starting a Guild Quest in World 2 would make it so that there isn't an existing quest in World 2 until the player presses "k" to bring up the prompt again.

    Possible fixes

    Each Guild Quest should be exclusive to it's own world, meaning multiple Guild Quests should be able to be active at the same time, in different worlds. Each world should have it's own separate Guild Quest, rather than only one Guild Quest able to be active at a time.

    Summary

    If you are in another dimension such as the end or the nether and the guild attack is initiated, the reficule gateways and npcs will fail to spawn in and the guildmaster cannot follow you to the overworld.

    Steps to reproduce

    Be in the nether/end, kill mobs until you trigger the attack.
